When i need to think i go to a little diner that my brother victor
and
i
use to go to, as a rule no earlier than 4am.
As I make my way there
after
some late night shopping I stop to get a post-gazette. The man
at the
7/11
informs me even though it is three am that mondays paper has not
yet
hit
the stand. I must have flashed a great sense of disappointment
because he
proceeded in giving me sundays paper for free. funny, people are
always
giving me stuff.
As I settle into the diner for italian toast and coffee I am offended
by
the spin on the war and the cartoon like announcement that Billy
Graham's
son is going into Iraq with all his resources to help re-build
iraq. It
was
reported that more Iraqi's have died during the aftermath of " liberation"
than during the war-no clean water, no electricity and bombed
out hospitals. even the worlds oldest museum was looted, almost
a means
of
self-ethnic cleaning-where 4 religions claim that civilization
started at
the tigris and Euphrates the scene looks like st. john's vision
of the
end
of the war.
And now it is reported that the U.S. might go to war with syria
because that might be where Saddam transferred his weapons of mass
destruction.
the marines have been informed their stay in iraq is indefinite..
Finally my italian toast arrives it smells like a freshly baked
loaf of
italian bread like grandma molly use to make. I raise my tired
eyes to
the waitress her eyes fly open and she takes a step back. She regains
her
equilibrium and says, you are victors brother...then she stops
herself, pauses and disinterest asks if i want more coffee.
Seems folk don't want the responsibility of remembering. so goes
the crisis- orientation of the peace movement as numbers drastically
drop
(london expected 1/4 of a million but after the corporate media's"
liberation hype", only 20,000 showed up). folk move onto anything
but
following thru with the much needed work of peace and the war goes
on...
